Festivals and Rituals

Elaborate dances, vibrant colors, and spiritual connection

There are thousands of festivals and rituals that take place in Bhutan every year. From massive national Tsechus (annual rituals to subdue spirits) or Chokkhus (house blessings) in a village, no matter when you travel to Bhutan there's an amazing spectacle to behold. Masked dancers pounce across the stone slabs in the Dzongs (fortresses), while monks drum and trumpet to invite spirits to find a beneficial reincarnation for their next life. Many rituals are Buddhist at their core, but each has been shaped by the unique history of Bhutan.
